What a link preview checker reads

A link preview is not a screenshot of your page. Platforms build it from tags in your page's code. The Open Graph protocol, originally created at Facebook, defines four properties every page should have: og:title, og:type, og:image and og:url, with og:description and og:image:alt as useful extras. Twitter adds its own twitter: tags on top. This checker fetches your page, lists every tag it finds, and shows the cards built from them.

How LinkedIn and Twitter read the same page

  • LinkedIn reads Open Graph. Its help center lists og:title, og:description, og:image and og:url as the tags that must exist.

  • Twitter reads its own tags first. twitter:title, twitter:description and twitter:image each fall back to og:title, og:description and og:image when they are missing.

  • Twitter needs a card type. twitter:card picks the layout. Without it, Twitter's docs say a summary card may still render if og:type, og:title and og:description exist.

That is why a page can look perfect on LinkedIn and plain on Twitter. One good set of Open Graph tags plus a twitter:card line covers both.

The numbers that decide how your card looks

  • LinkedIn image: at least 1200 x 627 pixels, 1.91:1, up to 5 MB. Less than 401 pixels wide shows as a thumbnail.

  • Twitter large image card: 2:1, at least 300 x 157, at most 4096 x 4096, under 5 MB. JPG, PNG, WEBP or GIF. No SVG.

  • Twitter summary card: 1:1, at least 144 x 144, cropped to a square.

  • Twitter text: title up to 70 characters, description up to 200, image alt text up to 420.

LinkedIn publishes no title or description limit, so we show yours as it is. A 1200 x 627 image meets LinkedIn's minimum and sits well inside Twitter's large card range. Twitter's large card is built for 2:1, so keep text away from the top and bottom edges. Every other size is in the social media image size guide.

When the checker looks right and the platform does not

Both platforms keep a copy of what they read. Twitter's own docs say its crawler re-reads card tags roughly every seven days. LinkedIn refreshes when you ask through its Post Inspector, and only for new posts. So if this checker shows the right tags and a platform still shows old ones, your page is fine and the platform has an old copy. Our LinkedIn post inspector explains the refresh on LinkedIn, and the Twitter card validator covers the trick Twitter documents for its side.

Is this an Open Graph checker?

Yes, and a little more. An Open Graph checker lists og: tags. This one also reads the twitter: tags, applies Twitter's fallback rules, measures the image, and shows the result as two real cards, because a tag that is technically present can still produce a card nobody clicks.

A good preview, then a post worth stopping for

The card is the packaging. The words above it are what people read first. VoiceMoat is a Personal Brand OS for your content: audenAI learns from your own posts and drafts new ones in your voice, on Twitter or LinkedIn, so the post that shares your link sounds like you. See how Studio works.
