Why use it

A profile is read in a fixed order by somebody who has already decided to be curious. They saw a post, clicked the name, and are deciding in seconds whether there is more worth having. Most profiles answer a different question, because they are written as a CV for a recruiter, and the visitor who arrived from a post is not that reader.

What it does

It starts with where people are arriving from, since that changes what the first line has to do. Then the headline, which travels under your name on every post and comment and is therefore read far more often than the profile itself. Then the two lines of About that sit above the fold, which carry the whole section. Then featured, then what to leave alone.

What you get

• The headline tested the way it is actually read, out loud, directly after your name

What it will not do

It will not promise search placement, because LinkedIn does not publish how its search ranks people. It will not stuff keywords either: a headline written for a matching algorithm reads like one to the human who arrived from a post.
