Fix my ending

Why use it

The ending is the part most people write on autopilot. The body gets drafted and redrafted, then a closing question arrives out of habit, usually the same one as last time. A weak ending does not merely fail to earn a reply. It tells the reader the post was an exercise, and that reaches back over everything they just read.

What it does

It works out what the post is actually for, because endings are not interchangeable, then names the ending it currently has: the favour ask, the summary, the lesson, the pivot, the real question, or none. Closing questions get one test. Could a stranger answer it in a sentence, without rereading, without looking anything up, and without agreeing with you first.

What you get

• A named diagnosis rather than a general complaint about calls to action

• Permission to delete the ending, which for story posts is usually the fix

What it will not do

It will not promise comments, and it will not write engagement bait. Asking people to comment a keyword does produce comments, and it teaches them that replying to you is a transaction.
