What makes a good username
A good username is easy to say, easy to spell after hearing it once, and short enough to fit in a reply, a podcast intro or a slide. It hints at who you are or what you post about, and it still makes sense in five years when your niche has moved. The worst usernames are the ones that need explaining: a string of numbers, a double underscore or an inside joke.
Username rules on each platform
Every platform sets its own limits, and a handle that works on one can fail on another. These are the rules this generator checks:
Twitter: more than 4 characters and up to 15, using only letters, numbers and underscores.
Instagram: up to 30 characters, using letters, numbers, periods and underscores.
YouTube: handles of 3 to 30 characters with letters and numbers, plus underscores, hyphens or periods, but none of those symbols at the start or end.
LinkedIn: a custom profile URL of 3 to 100 characters with no spaces, symbols or special characters, and without the word LinkedIn.
One handle everywhere: the safe pattern
If you want the same name on every network, design for the strictest rule. A handle of 5 to 15 characters made of letters and numbers only passes Twitter, Instagram, YouTube and a LinkedIn custom URL. That is what the “Any platform” setting aims for. Underscores work on Twitter, Instagram and YouTube, but leave them out if the name also has to be your LinkedIn URL.
An AI username generator, not a word shuffler
Many free username tools glue a random adjective to a random noun. This AI username generator starts from what you give it, so the handles are about you. It returns three handles in each of four styles:
Your name. Variations on your real name, for a personal brand.
Name plus niche. Your name joined to what you post about.
Niche word. A handle built around your topic, for a brand or project account.
Short and brandable. Invented or clipped words that are easy to remember.
What it cannot do is tell you whether a handle is free. That needs a live lookup on each platform. Search your favorite there before you fall for it, and keep a second choice ready.
A handle gets you found. Your content gets you followed.
Once the name is set, the profile and the posts have to live up to it. Get a bio that fits each platform from the bio generator, and use the Twitter username generator if Twitter is your main account. When you are ready to post, VoiceMoat's audenAI learns from your own content on Twitter or LinkedIn, drafts posts in your voice and checks drafts so they sound like you.
