What a shadowban test can honestly check

“Shadowban” is the word users invented for reach that drops without an explanation. Platforms rarely use it. What they do document is narrower: posts that get demoted, filtered from search, kept out of recommendations, or removed with a strike. Only one of those can be tested from outside a platform, whether your posts show up in Twitter search, and our live Twitter shadowban checker tests exactly that. For everything else, the honest shadowban test is a checklist: the notices platforms do send you, and the behaviors they say they limit.

That is what this tool is. Pick a platform, answer yes, no or not sure, and get a 0 to 100 score where every point traces back to that platform's own published rules.

What each platform actually says

  • Twitter. It documents “limiting post visibility” rather than shadowbans. Since April 2023 a limited post carries a label you can appeal, and the help center lists what gets accounts filtered from search: duplicate posts, hashtag abuse, automated posting, and aggressive following and unfollowing.

  • LinkedIn. Its feed filters out or tapers distribution of low-quality and unsafe content, and it asks members to avoid engagement bait such as reaction-vote polls and tagging for attention. Since May 2026, content that appears AI-generated and lacks a clear perspective is less likely to reach beyond your network, and since July 2026 LinkedIn privately flags in your dashboard when readers feel a post comes off as inauthentic.

  • Facebook. Meta demotes clickbait links, engagement bait, fact-checked misinformation and content likely to break its Community Standards. How hard it demotes can depend on how often you have broken the rules before.

  • Instagram. Meta says the posts it recommends in feed follow its quality and integrity rules, so borderline content is the first thing to rule out.

  • YouTube. No shadowbans, but strikes. A first violation is usually a warning, a strike blocks uploads for a week, and three strikes in 90 days may remove the channel. YouTube tells you by email.

  • Reddit. Reddit replaced sitewide shadowbans with account suspensions in 2015.

How the score works

Each platform has its own checklist of 3 to 7 questions that add up to 100. Official notices weigh the most, because they are the only direct evidence you will ever get: a label on a Twitter post, a YouTube strike, a confirmed violation on Facebook. Habits come next: repeated posts, bait, automation. “Not sure” scores half, and the result names the single item costing you the most. A score of 100 does not prove nothing is wrong. It means nothing on that platform's own list points to a limit.

If the shadowban test comes back clean

Then the answer is more likely in your content and timing than in a hidden switch. Check whether you post when your audience is online with best time to post, measure your engagement rate against your own baseline, and on Twitter test a draft with the Twitter algorithm checker. A real drop shows up in your numbers over weeks. A rumor shows up after one quiet post.

Stop guessing at reach. Watch it.

Most shadowban scares are a few quiet posts read as a pattern. VoiceMoat puts the real pattern in front of you: Analytics tracks your posts over time on Twitter or LinkedIn, so a genuine dip is a trend you can see and act on. And because reach follows content people want to engage with, audenAI, the brain inside VoiceMoat, learns from your own content and drafts posts in your voice, so you keep showing up without leaning on the bait and automation every platform above says it limits.
