How do you calculate engagement rate on X?
Engagement rate is the share of your audience that interacts with a post. You add the engagements (likes, reposts, replies, and bookmarks), divide by a base (impressions or follower count), and multiply by 100. The two bases are not comparable, so pick one and stay consistent. This calculator does the math and places your rate against real 2026 benchmarks.
How it works
Three steps, all in your browser. The rate is computed live from the numbers you enter and placed against the real 2026 benchmarks.

Low is the new normal, so the bar is voice
X engagement has been falling for years. Our 2026 data read tracks the median engagement rate per post from about 0.035% in 2023 to 0.015% in 2025. If your rate looks tiny, that is the platform, not a personal failing.
The accounts that beat the benchmark are not gaming a hack, they are distinctive. The same network signals show up in your profile roast and TweepCred, and they all move the same way: post things worth engaging with.

Beating the benchmark is a voice problem
The decline hits generic, templated content hardest and distinctive voices least. You do not out-hack a falling benchmark; you sound like someone worth replying to. Most AI tools sound like everyone, which earns the scroll. VoiceMoat trains on your writing so you can post in your voice and earn the reply.

Questions, Answered.
How do I calculate engagement rate on X?
Add your engagements (likes, reposts, replies, and bookmarks), divide by a base (impressions or follower count), and multiply by 100. This tool does it for you and shows the band.
What is a good engagement rate on X in 2026?
By the common rule of thumb (Sprout Social), above 0.5% is good and above 1% is excellent. But the reality of 2026 is brutal: the median business account sits near 0.015%, with the top quartile around 0.08%, so most accounts are well below the 'good' line.
What counts as an engagement on X?
For this calculator, an engagement is a like, repost, reply, or bookmark. Bookmarks and replies are weighted nowhere in the raw rate, but they matter most for distribution, so they are worth tracking separately.
Should I measure against impressions or followers?
Both are common, but they are not comparable, and different benchmark publishers use different definitions. Pick one base, be consistent, and only compare year over year within the same source.
Is engagement rate the same as reach or impressions?
No. Impressions (or reach) is how many times the post was seen; engagement rate is the share of those views, or of your followers, that interacted. Reach is the denominator, not the rate.
What is the average engagement rate on X?
The 2026 median business account sits near 0.015% per post, with the top quartile around 0.08% (Sprout, RivalIQ). The familiar 0.5% 'good' rule of thumb predates the recent decline, so very few accounts clear it now.
Why is my engagement rate so low?
It is not just you. Median X engagement per post fell from about 0.035% in 2023 to 0.029% in 2024 to 0.015% in 2025 (RivalIQ, Sprout). The decline is worst in generic, templated content and least pronounced for voice-rich creators in conversation-driven niches.
Do you store my data?
No. You type the numbers and the calculation runs entirely in your browser. Nothing is uploaded or saved.
How do I actually raise my rate?
Replies and bookmarks are rising while likes fall, so write posts worth saving and worth answering. Most of all, sound like yourself. VoiceMoat drafts posts in your voice so they earn replies, not scrolls. You can start free.
