What a LinkedIn profile optimizer should check

Your profile is the page behind every post, comment and connection request you send. People land on it to decide whether you are worth a follow, a reply or a call. It also does quieter work: LinkedIn says its feed reads identity signals, which include profile details such as your location, workplace and skills, to judge what is relevant to whom. So a thin profile costs you twice, once with the visitor and once with the feed.

Most optimizers and LinkedIn profile checkers hand you a grade and a list of generic tips. This one scores 11 checks you can see, gives each a fixed number of points, and tells you what passed, what failed and the one change that fixes it.

The 11 checks and what they are worth

  • Headline, 20 points. The same six checks as our LinkedIn headline analyzer, scaled to 20: role, who you help, proof, buzzwords, keywords and length.

  • About opening, 10 points. Do your first two sentences say what you do and who it is for?

  • About substance, 10 points. One concrete proof point and a clear next step.

  • Latest role, 15 points. At least one outcome, not only a list of duties.

  • Skills, 10 points. Five or more, with the top ones echoed in your headline or About.

  • Photo, 10 points. A clear photo of your face.

  • Banner, Featured, custom URL, location and workplace, buzzwords. 5 points each.

The weights follow what a visitor reads first. The headline and About carry 40 points between them because they do most of the explaining. The small fields are cheap to fix, which is why they are worth doing first.

Why the latest role scores so much

Experience is where most profiles go flat. “Responsible for managing social media” describes the job ad, not you. The check looks for a change you caused: a number, a named result, a thing that shipped. One line like “Rebuilt onboarding, which cut support tickets by a third” does more than five lines of duties. If your current role has no description at all, the check fails outright, because a visitor who scrolls that far finds nothing.

Small fields that quietly cost you points

  • Custom URL. LinkedIn lets you set a custom public URL of 3 to 100 characters, and change it up to five times in six months. A URL ending in random characters looks unfinished on a CV or a business card.

  • Skills. You can list up to 100. List none and the Skills section does not appear at all, which also drops one of the profile details LinkedIn says its feed reads.

  • Location and workplace. Both are named by LinkedIn as profile details its feed uses. Leave them blank and you are harder to place.

  • Featured. One pinned post or case study gives a visitor a next click.

Want the same checks with jokes on top? The LinkedIn profile roast scores the same 11 and hands you a shareable card.

A strong profile gets the visit. Your posts earn the follow.

A sharp profile converts the people who arrive. Getting them to arrive is the job of your posts, and that is where VoiceMoat comes in. It is a personal brand OS built around your content: audenAI, the brain inside VoiceMoat, learns from your own posts, then drafts LinkedIn posts and comments in your voice and checks drafts so they sound like you. Redo your About with the LinkedIn summary generator, run your next post through the LinkedIn AI post detector, then plan your next week of posts in Studio.
