audenAI learns from your own LinkedIn content and drafts posts and comments in your voice, for the industry you picked.
LinkedIn publishes its industry taxonomy in its developer documentation, under Industry Codes V2. That page lists every valid industry with an ID, a label, its place in the hierarchy and a description. We copied the active list as it stood in October 2026: 434 active industries under 20 top-level categories, nested up to six levels deep.
Two details from LinkedIn's own page are worth knowing. The IDs are defined by LinkedIn and are different from NAICS industry codes. And LinkedIn says it cannot currently accept requests to add or change industries, so the list you see here is the list you can choose from.
The 20 top-level LinkedIn industries
Every one of the 434 industries sits under one of these categories:
Accommodation Services; Administrative and Support Services; Construction; Consumer Services
Education; Entertainment Providers; Farming, Ranching, Forestry; Financial Services
Government Administration; Holding Companies; Hospitals and Health Care; Manufacturing
Oil, Gas, and Mining; Professional Services; Real Estate and Equipment Rental Services; Retail
Technology, Information and Media; Transportation, Logistics, Supply Chain and Storage; Utilities; Wholesale
Under them, the list gets specific. Technology, Information and Media, for example, includes Software Development and IT Services and IT Consulting. Professional Services includes Business Consulting and Services and Marketing Services.
Old LinkedIn industries that are no longer active
If you remember names like Information Technology and Services, Apparel and Fashion or Automotive, they are now listed as inactive nodes: 53 older labels that LinkedIn keeps on record but no longer offers. The tool flags them and shows them separately, so an old label in a spreadsheet or a profile still has a home.
How to pick your industry on LinkedIn
Pick the work, not the logo. A designer at a bank may fit Design Services better than Banking, depending on who you want to find you.
Go as specific as the list allows. A child label says more than its parent.
Match your headline and About section. The industry, the headline and the summary should tell the same story.
Marketers: use the IDs. The same industry IDs are used in LinkedIn's developer tools and in Campaign Manager targeting, so you can map an audience to exact industries.
Your industry says where you fit. Your posts prove it.
A label gets you into the right searches. What people find when they click is your content. VoiceMoat learns your voice from your own LinkedIn content, and audenAI drafts posts and comments in that voice, so showing up in your industry every week takes minutes, not hours, and every post still sounds like you. The Chrome extension drafts comments right inside LinkedIn.
