What goes in a content calendar template

A content calendar is a schedule of what you will post, where and when. The template most people download has the right columns and nothing in them, which is why so many get abandoned in the second week. This one comes back filled in, with these columns:

  • Date and day. When each post goes out, starting from the date you pick.

  • Pillar. Which of your three content themes the post belongs to.

  • Format. How-to, story, opinion, list, question or behind the scenes.

  • Topic. The specific idea, not a vague theme.

  • Hook. A first line to start from, so the blank page is never blank.

Content pillars: the three lanes

Pillars are the few themes you want to be known for. The generator picks three from your niche; for a product designer that might be design process, career lessons and tools. Rotating between them keeps the calendar varied without drifting off topic, and it teaches your audience what to expect from you. If a pillar never produces a post you are proud of, swap it next month.

How to use the calendar each week

  • Batch on one day. Draft the week's posts in one sitting, using the hooks as starting points.

  • Schedule ahead. LinkedIn lets you schedule a post straight from its composer, and scheduling tools cover the rest. Then you only show up to reply.

  • Leave one open slot. Keep room for news, a reply that deserves a full post, or a thought you had on a walk.

  • Review what landed. At the end of the month, keep the formats that worked and drop the ones that did not.

Not sure what pace to set? Start with a number of posts you can keep for a month, not the one you hope to hit. The posting frequency calculator helps you pick, and the best time to post tool covers when. For seasonal hooks, add dates from the social media holiday calendar.

A content calendar generator, not just a template

A template gives you structure; a content calendar generator gives you structure and a first idea for every slot. Pick a goal (grow an audience, build authority or promote a launch) and a content mix (teach more, balanced or share more), and the calendar shifts its formats to match. Paste a few of your posts into Match my voice and the hooks start to sound like you. Every free content calendar template you download still needs you to fill it; this one only needs you to edit it.

From a calendar to posts that ship

A calendar is a promise to your future self. VoiceMoat is how you keep it: audenAI learns from your own content on Twitter or LinkedIn, drafts each post in your voice and checks drafts so they sound like you, and Schedule queues the week so it goes out without the daily scramble. Until then, start each slot with the free social media post generator.
